My email to Dog and Beth

Dear Dog and Beth,

I wanted to say thank you to both of you. I had a whole speach ready to write and now none of it seems true from my heart.

I was at the St. Charles, MO book signing on August 22, 2007 and boy was it a rush! It was a rush in two ways, by the speed of going through the line and being able to acknowledge two success stories. I have been recommending your book to any one I know that needs encouragement to do the right thing and change their lives. That is why you both are success stories. You saw the wrong and the destruction and set out to conquer it, in both yourselves and in the world. It takes strong people to say I have made a mistake. It takes even stronger people to make that mistake a positive learning and teaching lesson.

Dog, I do have to apologize for my behavior at the signing. No I did not cause a scene or faint or get security upset with me. I was the woman that came through the line twice. You see there was a young man with his parents out side the Main Street Books store that had come to see you. He was rather heart broken when he found out he could not get in to see you unless he had a book. His mom was upset at telling her boy, he was maybe 11, he could not go in because of the rules. The young man was not a spoiled brat having a fit. He was willing to accept that he could not see you or even possibly get a picture. Well, I had a book but it was already signed by you, I was number 64 line ticket. I told his mom that I had a book and I would take him in and we all hoped we would not get in trouble. We were fairly certain that no one would question that he may be my son, we are both very blonde. Well when it came our turn for your autograph I opened my book to the proper page and you made a double take seeing your signature was already there and asked me ‘what I would like you to write this time’. I responded with an ‘um, thank you’ and quickly said ‘this young man would like to meet you’. You were very gracious and immediately turned to the boy and shook his hand and told him you were very pleased to meet him. We left after Beth shook my hand (a second time) and told us ‘thank you for coming’. I got the young man to his mom and he was ecstatic! He could not stop telling her how awesome and great you were. I never got his or his parents names. It did not make a difference, I was only glad to help him with a small hope he had to meet you. I love to tell people this true story. Why? I feel like it is my way of stating how ‘real’ people the two of you are.

Beth, thanks for being a wonderful person and sharing your life and family. I can’t even imagine how hard it is for you, and yet extremely rewarding. Myself, a wife, mom of two, Cub Scout Pack Committee Chair and PTA volunteer at both my children’s schools, and all else I do does not even compare to you and your responsibilities. You are a great role model.

Well that is about it. I wanted to say thanks for the opportunity to see the two of you, share a little about the experience I had that day and say thank you for proving to the world you can overcome anything.

Hopefully your experience in Missouri was a good one.

Sincerely,
Angela Gonzalez

P.S. I hope you do not mind, I am posting this letter on my blog site. Don’t worry, I don’t promote it so not many people read it.
