Two days of crazy and a little knitting

It is really 3 days of crazy, but I am not counting Sunday since I didn't leave the house at all.  So that crazy was confined and controlled.  Rhia was feeling bad with a soar throat all day and by 4:30 she looked horrible.  I took her temperature and it was 102.8.  Gave her some fever reducer and watched her.  John was packing for his work trip and Alex was gone from 7am to 12:30pm doing a car wash with his Boy Scout Troop.  Later that night Rhia's fever went down to almost normal but her throat was still hurting her a lot.

I performed the Grandma Mary Flannel and Vicks ritual and she seemed to sleep better.

But Monday, Rhia's fever came back almost as high and her throat was so swollen she could not swallow without pain.  I quickly emailed my teachers and class mates to ask if anyone could share notes and tell why I was missing class.  I took her to the doctor just after they opened and she tested (of course) positive for strep throat.  The antibiotics she needs to take are huge!  She has to break them in half to swallow them.

I got her meds, bought some comfort food that is easy to swallow, you know, jello, pudding, 7-up and soup.  She and I got home, I made her some soup and gave her her medicine.  She was all settled in fine and no worries.  I started to leave to make it to my last class (I already missed my two am classes by now) and the phone rings.  It's Alex's school nurse.

'No Alex does not need to be picked up from school but.....'  So after talking to her about Alex's problem, an infected finger around the cuticle, I am off to Biology Lab.  I got there about 5 minutes late and have to tell my teacher that I may need to leave early so I could take him to the doctor now.  The nurse wanted him seen right away.  So I call the doctors office again (twice so far on Monday) and get Alex an appointment for the same time my class is supposed to end.  So I leave class early and had to let my two lab partners finish the simulation experiment we were doing.  I felt horrible doing that.

Now to Alex's doctor visit.  It seems he has Perionychium (or paronychia).  He is on a different antibiotic and oddly enough it is the same strong antibiotic he got 3 or 4 weeks ago when he stepped on a nail and it went into his foot.

Now it is today, Tuesday.  One kid still home, one at school since he's not contagious and John is on the road for work till Friday.  I took some time before I left for class to trim the dogs toe nails, at least her front paws and clean out the cat's infected ear.

During class I get a text message from Rhia and it seems I have to make her an emergency beauty shop appointment.  I am not going into details about this one because she is embarrassed enough and does not want anyone to know.  So don't bring it up again and forget I ever mentioned it.

Knitting, I haven't mentioned that yet and you may be wondering why.  Well between what I've told you and what I haven't said and the lack of sleep I did knit some on two pairs of socks.  It is not a good picture since I took it with my phone.  But this is one pair started of two up socks.  I only got 8 rows done since yesterday but it felt good to do something on it.  Spirit Trails sock yarn , wool and cashmere.  so yummy!  The other pair I don't have a picture of yet, but they are top down and I am using some Regia self striping that I have had for a number of years.

So folks that is the Readers Digest version and my vent a while.  Watch out though I may be back soon with more stuff!
