This is the kind of night John would come out into the back yard and sit. Sometimes I would join him, if it felt like he wanted my company.
The cicadas are in the trees singing. The night birds are starting their rounds for their dinner. There is a soft breeze moving the branches of the trees and touching me as it goes by. All the neighbors are either in their houses or out front so the back yard is quiet. Our kids are in the house on the computers and I am out side with my laptop.
I mowed today around noon so the smell of fresh cut grass is still present. Zena is after the scent of a rabbit that has been daring enough to make it's burrow under an old decaying stump. She has already dug it two nice big large entry and exit areas. I don't think the rabbit wants it's front and back door that noticeable. Now I know why her eyes are runny again and she has been sneezing, dirt.
There are very few dragonflies still out, and now there is a momma Robbin barking at a squirrel that is passing by her nest. I will keep sipping my beer and pretend John is here in our back yard with me and not 8 hours away.
During good weather evenings like this John would come out here and many times fall asleep in a patio chair. He would be so exhausted from work and the emotional stress of working with some of the people he worked with that this would be his only refuge. I am glad he is happy with his job again, being out of St. Louis. I am glad he likes the one guy on the team there. I know he is lonely with out us, he tells me so. I want him to be happy with himself and his job, because he loves what he does. By loving what he does is how he takes care of his family financially.
An airplane just broke the sound of my nature. Now a car and it's horn. Well about time I guess, it is after 8pm and people are done with their late dinners and on the move.
It is a nice night any how and all it is missing other than millions of dollars in my bank account to take care of us is my best friend and love by my side. Well there goes Zena again, she found something in the retaining wall in the back yard. I better go stop her before she takes down the wall.

I was thinking of you tonight when Lloyd and I ran over to Skeeters for frozen custard. I was even wondering if I had just missed you.
You should have called, we would have met you.
