More about Monday

I got so excited to get my socks done I forgot a funny. Our son did not think it so funny but I do.

Public Library books have those slick sleeves for protection on them. The clear plastic that reminds me of a Great Aunt that had everything covered in plastic to keep the kids and animals from getting her furniture dirty, you got the image. Well, it seems books covered in plastic are rather slippery in a 11 year old boys hands.

The prop is now set,the location is at the bus stop at 7:20am at a stop sign directly over a storm sewer. You know where I am going with this already, you are so smart.

Here comes the son, busting into the house, white as a sheet and visibly panicked. We hear the bus come down the street, this does not help the son calm down.

"What's wrong?" Dad
"The sewer, the sewer!" Son
we think someone got hit by a car or truck and it knocked them down the sewer.
"The sewer, my book went down the sewer, my library book, it slipped out of my hands and went down the sewer!" Son
" The bus is at the stop, clam down, no really calm down, go get the bus, it is alright, it is only a book and it can be replaced. Quick run and catch the bus." Dad and Mom

So the son gets on the bus, the husband goes to the sewer to look and see if he can see it. Yep, there it is, at the bottom in the water - it rained and snowed over the weekend so there of course is water in the storm sewer.

Back comes the husband, laughing at what he is about to do. Gets some tools to try and reach the book without having to climb down the sewer. Our cat goes down into the sewer all the time, why didn't we train him to fetch - my attempt at humor.

So I had just gotten out of the shower when the son busted in the door so I am no help, I'm not dressed yet. By the time I am dressed the husband has already removed the manhole cover, climbed down the hole (everything you see in the movies about being foot steps or holes in a sewer pipe is true, John found that out) and came back up with one very wet - VERY WET book.

Today is Tuesday and it is still drying out and it looks like we are buying a book from the County Library. I am glad Alex likes the book.
